Mr. Justin Schwausch is serving his sixteenth year on the Gonzales ISD Board of Trustees and his second year as President of the Board. A proud graduate of Gonzales ISD, Mr. Schwausch has a strong and lasting connection to the district and the Gonzales community.

Mr. Schwausch and his wife, Sylvia, are proud parents of two children. Their son is a graduate of Gonzales ISD and Texas A&M University. Their daughter, Kilee, is also a Gonzales High School graduate and is currently pursuing a degree in Communication and Leadership at The University of Texas at Austin’s Moody College of Communication.

Professionally, Mr. Schwausch serves as a Senior GIS Technician with Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative, where he has dedicated twenty-seven years of service. His commitment to Gonzales ISD began with a desire to make a positive difference in the district and the community he calls home.

Throughout his years of service, Mr. Schwausch has remained committed to listening to the voices of students, staff, parents, and community members. He believes in being a strong advocate for Gonzales ISD and working collaboratively to support the continued success of the district.

“I try to give my best to the district, and I continue to serve because I don’t feel that my work is finished. I want to make a difference and help move our district forward for the betterment of our students, staff, and community.”

Gloria Torres

Board Member - District 1 Term Began 5/2025 Term Ends 5/2028

Mrs. Gloria Torres has served on the Board of Trustees for thirty-eight years. She and her husband, Michael, have two children who are both graduates of Gonzales ISD. She is a proud grandmother to five grandchildren. Her eldest grandchild attends college at UTSA. Her four younger grandchildren are currently students in Gonzales ISD. She has been in the insurance business as an agent since 1984, and she now proudly owns her own insurance company, Torres Insurance Services. She attends Faith Family Church in Gonzales as well as a weekly Bible study with Women Rise Up and Be Encouraged Ministries. Mrs. Torres serves on the Board because she wants to be a voice for the community, “I want Gonzales ISD to be a thriving district. I wanted better for the community and our students, and I think we are heading that way.” She is passionate about equitable representation of the community, listening to concerns, and advocating for them as a leader.

Jami Owens

Mrs. Jami Kay Owens began her service on the Gonzales ISD Board of Trustees in May 2026. A dedicated advocate for public education, Mrs. Owens brings a wealth of firsthand experience to the board, having served Gonzales ISD as both a teacher and an administrator for 20 years before her retirement. Beyond her professional dedication to the district, Mrs. Owens has deep personal roots in the community. She and her husband, John, are the proud parents of five adult children—four of whom are proud Gonzales ISD graduates—and the grandparents of seven. Since retiring from the district, she has channeled her creativity into working as a graphic designer and thoroughly enjoys spending her weekdays caring for her youngest grandson while his parents are at work. “Seeking a seat on the Board of Trustees was a natural step for me,” says Mrs. Owens. “My experiences as a parent, educator, and administrator give me a unique, well-rounded perspective on our schools. I am committed to advocating for educational and fiduciary decisions that directly support our students and staff, ensuring resources are allocated wisely and transparently to benefit the classroom.”
