Meet the Directors:
Ian McDaniel, Head Band Director
Mr. McDaniel has been teaching in Gonzales since the spring of 2015. He earned his Bachelor of Music Education from Texas State University where he performed in the Concert Band, Trombone Ensemble, and the Bobcat Marching Band. He has also performed with the San Antonio Chamber Winds, Crossmen Winds, and Symphony of the Hills.
Jerry Scoggin, Assistant Band Director
Mr. Scoggin has been a band director for Gonzales ISD since 2007 and began his teaching career in the fall of 1994, with positions in Oklahoma, Alabama and Texas. He is currently the Director of North Avenue Intermediate as well as an Assistant Director at Gonzales High School and Junior High. He earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1994, where he marched with the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band, and participated in the Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensembles.
Aside from teaching music, Mr. Scoggin enjoys a variety of activities including, scuba diving, traveling, reading, movies, playing guitar, and outdoor activities.
Michael Holubec, Assistant Band Director
Michael Holubec was raised in the community of Thrall, Texas where he graduated from Thrall High School. Mr. Holubec completed his degree with a Bachelor's in Music Education at Texas State University. During his time at Texas State, he participated in activities such as the Bobcat Marching Band, Bobcat Basketball Band, percussion ensembles, the steel drum band, and the concert bands. He was fortunate to study music and education under the direction of Caroline Beatty, Kyle Glaser, Matthew Holzner, Jordan Stern, Kurt Moede, and many more outstanding professors. In addition to his musical experience, Mr. Holubec also participated in ensembles such as Guardians Drum and Bugle Corps 2013 and 2018, Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps 2015 and 2017, Violet Crown Independent Indoor Percussion 2017, and Rhythmic Force Independent Indoor Percussion 2014-2016 and 2018-2019. Before Mr. Holubec graduated this past Spring of 2020, he's had the opportunity to work for Rhythmic Force Indoor Percussion and teach at schools such as Judson High School, Lehman High School, Chapa Middle School, and Kyle Elementary.
